For the past number of years Dave and I have spent New Year’s Eve at my parents place in Ft. Lauderdale having a seafood feast and watching the surf roll in. This year was a new twist on the old theme. At Dave and Bridget’s suggestion we headed to Destin for New Years Eve.
It is a small harbor (more like a lagoon) separated from the ocean by a small sand peninsula. Heading into it we didn’t think it would be deep enough for us, but we made it and we are so glad we did.
When we arrived we were treated to a mini air show (big bonus for Dave who has a thing for planes). Destin is near Elgin Airforce base, the largest in the world from what we read.
We had a seafood feast courtesy of our friend Margaret in Cuba Landing. Complete with champagne we purchased at Costco (with Warren and Layla).
Later on some tour boats went through the harbor (mini lighted boat parade), and finally there were fireworks. It was perfect. It felt like the New Year’s tradition we established years ago, but also included special elements that reminded us of some of the friends we have made along the way to our next life, whatever that will be.
