12-26 to 12-30 Mobile Bay Al to Ingram Bayou FL

Like so many other places, we stayed at Grand Mariner and extra day or two. We thought we’d leave the day after Christmas but we wound up doing errands, hanging out with Dave, Bridget and Marlene, and generally enjoying the place.

We thought we’d leave on the 29th, but that morning when I told Dave that it was free to stay the night (if you stay a week there is a 15% discount on dockage) the decision was made. So we took care of some housekeeping, and like so many good sailors, had a run in with the law. Yep, that’s right. We got a ticket for speeding in the dinghy.

That night we had one last drink with Bridget and Dave and then left Mobile on the 30th. It was perfect weather to cross the bay, which is shallow and can be rough. We started to see the first real signs of being on the ocean - dolphins, shrimpers, endless blue.

We anchored in Ingram Bayou near Pensacola, a beautiful spot. Dave pulled out the fishing rod for the first time. Fortunately we had a back-up plan for dinner.

That night Dave studied the Florida charts, as the coming days will be the first time on the trip that we have traveled any significant distance on our own.
