As soon as he heard that Dave
uncharacteristically cracked open a beer at 3:00 in the afternoon.
I personally think he just wasn’t ready to leave yet. Truthfully, both of us feel like we would be satisfied with our trip if we just stayed in Crystal River. It would be much less of a journey than we had planned, but we seem to feel like we have found what we were looking for.
None the less, on Monday we left the dock of Twin Rivers Marina and headed out to the Gulf.
We made it through all of the shallow patches without incident and just before sunset we tried to set the anchor. But the anchor wouldn’t bite. After several unsuccessful attempts it felt like déjà vu. Our own personal Hotel California, “you can check out but you can never leave”.
This time we were armed with a bit more knowledge about the area, however. We anchored in a deep channel that leads to a nuclear power plant but is not used. The full moon over the power plant provided an unusual backdrop for the evening.
