12-19 Columbia Marina to Anchorage MM 270 65 miles

We had been advised by Columbia Marina to get a really early start through the lock or you can get hung up in barge traffic for hours. So we left at 7 am and were able to get through right away with four other boats, including Geronimo.

One of the boats was a 30' or so cruiser that got about 50 feet out of the lock before their engine started smoking, apparently it had sucked in debris and had to turned back. The other boat was Brown Eyed Girl who we followed to an anchorage that night.

Geronimo was too deep to be able to enter the anchorage. It was around 2:30 in the afternoon when we stopped and one of the warmest days we had seen in a while. So we took down the dinghy and thought we'd motor over to land for a walk. But first we stopped Brown Eyed Girl to say hi. In true cruiser fashion they invited us in for a drink. What could we do but accept? Dave and Bridget are some of the most experienced boaters we have met, having crewed mega yachts for gazillionaires.

The closest we've been to a heron in a while.
