12-20 Anchorage mm 270 to Demopolis Al 54 miles

It is starting to feel like we are in the south now. There is Spanish moss hanging from the trees along the river (scary trees as Dave calls them, they do look a bit like Halloween).

We also had our first palm-type tree sighting! I know this isn’t the greatest photo, but it was a great moment for us.

We aren't quite sure what this little structure under the bridge is, but thought is was interesting looking.

Demopolis is the only marina for 100+ miles in both directions, so pretty much everyone stops there. It is more of a working marina, barges stop there to provision and get fuel so their gas prices are really good. Warren and Layla left Time Out there when they returned to California for Christmas. When we got there we took the courtesy car and stocked up at Walmart.

Then we met Dave and Bridget at the marina restaurant for dinner. Meeting them was a lucky break for us. Dave is a 200 ton USCG Captain and as I mentioned before the two of them were Captain and 1st Mate for a 100 foot yacht in Florida for a couple of years. They have traveled extensively throughout the Bahamas and Florida by boat and know the Tenn-Tom really well too. After Demopolis the river gets really winding and can have unexpected shallow spots so they are going to lead us the rest of the way to Mobile. They also gave us some great tips for the rest of the trip. Nothing like meeting people who really know what they are doing! We checked on Time Out, which is just fine, and called it a night.
