Our week was up, and the winds were going to start picking up, so it was time to go. Caesar Creek runs between a number of mangrove islands that are about 20 miles south of Miami. It is one of the few places that are deep enough for us in the area and turned out to be a terrific anchorage for the weather. Just as we were turning into Caesar Creek the wind really started to blow, with predictions for gusts up to 45 miles and hour. That is a lot of wind. Right after we dropped anchor Mike (from Crystal River) called us to make sure we knew about the weather prediction and were in a safe spot. Nice to have people looking out for us.

We could hear the wind whipping around above us, but were perfectly protected from it and the currents. Normally the wind will turn a boat around so that the bow points into it. A boat will swing as the direction of the wind changes. Not here. Our boat was positioned perpendicular to the wind and barely swung at all. This had Dave confused for a while, but finally we decided to just be happy about it. We stayed here 2 nights due to the high wind predictions. The only person we spoke to was a guy who had just repossessed a boat and needed directions. A sign of the times?
