We were hauled out the next afternoon and the damage to the boat was actually much less than we thought it might be. Only one propeller needed to be fixed and the bottom of the boat was basically fine with a minor scratch or two. The marina sends its propellers out for service so it would take a few days to get them fixed. The engines overheated because mud and sand were sucked into the engine cooling system and took out an impeller. Fortunately we had spare impellers and Dave can fix it himself. All together we were pretty fortunate. Plus the marina’s rates seem to be fair. We were really worried about what all of this would cost, but it shouldn’t be too bad.
We took the scooter to a nearby hotel that was recommended to us and made a reservation for 4 days. The hotel was pretty dumpy, but it is on the water with beautiful views and cheap. On the way back from the hotel we stopped at a local diner that was recommended to us by the owner of the marina. We sat down and who walked in but Captain Mike from Tow Boat US! We stopped by his table on our way out and met his wife Stacy. They invited us over to their house for drinks that night. Fortunately their house is near the hotel and on the water so we can travel there by dinghy! It turns out Crystal river is a small town with low speed limits that are strictly enforced so we can use the scooter and the dinghy to get around almost everywhere. We are back to being a two ‘car ‘ family for a while!
We went back to the boat to get some things together for the next few days, piled our gear into the dinghy and headed to the hotel. After some much needed showers we took the dinghy over to Mike and Stacy’s and had a lovely evening.
